Theatre for Change is hosting a virtual event: It Is What It Is: A Dark & Tender Comedy for the Climate Crisis on October 24, 2020 from 10:30AM-12:00PM PDT.
With playful exuberance, six drama therapists try to make sense of senseless times, and question the unanswerable.
At the heart of the 2020 Theatre for Change production, It Is What It Is: A Dark and Tender Comedy for the Climate Crisis, is interconnectedness—both its challenges, given this precarious and divisive time, and its possibilities.
It Is What It Is combines filmed segments, live video feeds, and the non-human world to invite audiences into a unique virtual experience.
The process and production are attempts to regain intimate connection with the earth and one another, and become a living record of how a group of human beings worked together to create something meaningful in the midst of a pandemic, continued state-sanctioned violence, and the recognition that the climate crisis is here, now. Cycling through emotional responses toward the climate crisis, the ensemble grapples with how to make change, what might be missing, and how to dismantle oppressive systems as we strive for ecological justice.
Admission is free with suggested donations to climate justice organizations:
1. Movement Generation inspires and engages in transformative action towards the liberation and restoration of land, labor, and culture. We are rooted in vibrant social movements led by low-income communities and communities of color committed to a Just Transition away from profit and pollution and towards healthy, resilient and life-affirming local economies. Donate to Movement Generation.
2. Banyan Roots empowers farmers with the tools, platforms, knowledge and support necessary for economic self-sufficiency through traditional Indian organic farming practices. We believe that it is only when India’s villages are self-sufficient that the ideal of inclusive growth becomes more real and tangible. Donate to Banyan Roots.
3. The Village Oakland is a grassroots movement of unhoused and housed volunteers who assert housing is a human right and homelessness is not a crime.
