Dr. Milena Popov is a multimedia artist and scholar with a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies and an MFA and a BFA in Painting and Art Education. Popov teaches eco art and design, as well as interdisciplinary sustainability and environmental justice courses at The City University of New York, and she is a founding member of the Environmental Justice Minor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She has published numerous texts on environmental sustainability and culture, and is currently preparing her e-book, Eco-Aesthetics and Biopolitics for publication by the University of Arts Belgrade, while her essay Rethinking Fashion in the book Eco Art Practicum is forthcoming from New Village Press. She recently coauthored a book chapter on sustainability learning meta-competencies and the UN SDGs published by Springer Nature. Popov is a member of Eco Art Dialog, founder of Intellectual Salon, and a co-founder of the art group Aufwiedersehen. She has exhibited her artworks worldwide and some of her artworks have entered public collections, such as the Museum of the Contemporary Art of Vojvodina.

This workshop will look into how materials, techniques, and processes used in the fashion industry have changed over time and have gradually caused more and more environmental problems and injustices, but are also changing again in order to provide eco solutions. The spectrum of sustainable fashion types, including cyborg fashion, will be explored, and several examples of DIY garments and jewelry will be on display.
