Virtual Experts Talk on the Carter: The Art of Nature

Amon Carter Museum of American Art is hosting a virtual event: “Virtual Experts Talk on the Carter: The Art of Nature” on January 28, 2021 from 7:00PM-8:30PM EST.

Hear from local experts about a work in our collection and see art through the lens of their own work and passions.

Experts Talk on the Carter (etc.) is a monthly lecture series that occurs on the fourth Thursday of each month, January through April. From artists to zookeepers, bakers to scientists, join us on Zoom to hear from local experts about a work in our collection, helping us see art through the lens of their own work and passions.

In this month’s etc. lecture, we are inspired by our immersive installation In the Night Garden by Natasha Bowdoin. Hear about the art of caring for and protecting nature, even when it goes awry. Tiana Rehman, Collections Manager of the Philecology Herbarium at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT), will share her expertise in facilitating the care, usage, and growth of BRIT’s scientific plant collection of over 1.4 million specimens. She will talk about her work in relation to William Trost Richards’ Woodland Glade (1860). Rob Denkhaus, Director of the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge and adjunct professor of environmental science at Texas Christian University, will share his experience managing the refuge with prescribed burning and other land management tactics. He will be talking about his work in relation to Terry Evans’ Dune & Swale (2018).
