For the first time, Oscar season is taking over Sundance Film Festival. Some of 2021's most exciting awards contenders are making splashy premieres at the festival, set to go off from these screenings into high campaigning gear. Among the players hitting Sundance (SFF21) are Warner Bros.' anticipated Judas and the Black Messiah, directed by Shaka King; Focus Features' Land, the directorial debut of Robin Wright; and Mona Fastvold's critically acclaimed The World to Come. David Canfield, EW's movies editor, sits down with top contenders from each film to discuss the power of their performances and films—and the vital social messages behind them.
