Design as an Attitude by Alice Rawsthorn | Book Discussion

The Chicago Graphic Design Club is hosting a virtual event: “Design as an Attitude by Alice Rawsthorn | Book Discussion” on January 6, 2021 from 7:00PM-8:00PM EST.

Join the Chicago Graphic Design Club to discuss Alice Rawsthorn's book, Design as an Attitude.

Join us to discuss ‘Design as an Attitude’ to explore the many ways design is currently responding to the state of our world. Let's collectively come together to envision a world where we use our skills and tools to take the world's most urgent problems.

We'll be discussing chapters 1–6 on January 6 and chapters 7–12 on January 20.

ABOUT BOOK

The book charts different aspects of contemporary design: from its role in interpreting new technologies and the emergence of a new wave of digitally empowered designers in Africa, to the craft revival, design’s gender politics, design’s contribution to tackling the environmental crisis and climate change, and its use in expressing our increasingly fluid personal identities. Design as an Attitude also tells the stories of the new design adventurers, such as Irma Boom, Studio Formafantasma, Jing He, and Hella Jongerius, among others.

ABOUT AUTHOR

Alice Rawsthorn is an award-winning design critic and the author of critically acclaimed books on design, including Hello World: Where Design Meets Life and, most recently, Design as an Attitude. Alice is a co-founder, with Paola Antonelli, of the Design Emergency project to investigate design's response to the COVID-19 crisis and its aftermath.
