Pollinators & Pollination with Jeff Ollerton by Somerset Beekeepers' Association

Be apart of the buzz with the folks over at Somerset Beekeepers' Association for their virtual event, Pollinators & Pollination with Jeff Ollerton on Thursday, July 15th from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.

This is a free virtual event!

About the event:

Pollination of flowers by insects and vertebrates is a vital ecological process that ensures the reproduction of most of the world’s wild plants and many agricultural crops. This talk provides an introduction to the natural history of the main groups of pollinators and how they interact with the flowers that they pollinate. The main threats to pollinators will be discussed, as well as strategies for their conservation, and why this is so important and relevant to modern society in our rapidly changing world.

As a scientist and educator for over 30 years, Jeff Ollerton has an international profile in the field of biodiversity, focused particularly on understanding and conserving plant-pollinator interactions. Jeff is the author of more than 125 scientific publications, and his highly-cited, ground-breaking research has been used by national and international agencies to support efforts to conserve pollinators and their pollination services. His writing has also appeared in magazine such as New Scientist and British Wildlife.

Jeff’s book Pollinators & Pollination: Nature and Society was published by Pelagic Publishing in early 2021, and more details about his work can be found on his website: www.jeffollerton.co.uk
