Join the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space for a celebratory Critical Mass Group Bike Ride to support and create safer streets for pedestrians and bicyclists. Critical Mass meets the last Friday of every month in over 200 cities around the world. NYC's Critical Mass and group bike rides increased bike riding and created the sustainable, safe infrastructure that now exists in NYC.
From 2000-2006 critical mass had thousands of riders who regularly headed to Times Square and performed a bike lift to demand an auto-free Times Square and a new DOT commissioner. Once we got the new pedestrian and bike-friendly commissioner, Janette Sadik-Khan, safer infrastructure began to be implemented on the streets- bike lanes, auto-free plazas, greenways, and bridge access to name a few. However, the journey was a difficult one.
Let's not forget how positive direct-action changed the whole city.
Support the safety of pedestrians and the bike community by joining the Critical Mass Bike Ride on the last Friday of every month.
