About this event
At Makoto Fujimura's new exhibit titled "Re-sonance", the Artist is pleased to host a short lecture and free viewing of “Silence,” a powerful movie directed by Martin Scorsese. Fujimura served as a special advisor when the movie was made, and Scorsese graciously granted us permission to share this wonderful film with our guests. As will be made clear in the movie, “Fumi-e” is the likeness of Jesus or Mary often cast in bronze, which was used by Japanese officials in the 17th and 18th century, to force Christians to reject their faith by stepping on the image of Jesus or Mary. Fujimura will give a brief lecture on the book Silence by Shūsaku Endō, and the guests will be able to see the actual Fumi-e used in the movie as part of the installation at the exhibit.
In connection with his discussion of justice and beauty, Fujimura will discuss Kintsugi and also introduce Embers International, a nonprofit whose work of justice and mercy in India has had a profound impact on Fujimura's life.
RSVP soon – seats are limited.
Proof of vaccination is required for entry.
