Magma Poetry 79: Poets and Scientists Talk Dwelling

Zoë Brigley Thompson is hosting a virtual expo “Magma Poetry 79: Poets and Scientists Talk Dwelling” on May 21, 2021 from 2:00PM-3:00PM EST.

This project brings together environmental scientists and poets based in Ohio to talk about how we live with the environment and each other.

About this Event:

This exciting event is the result of a project to put environmental scientists and poets in conversation. Poets and scientists were paired up to discuss environmental issues, and then poets have written work in response to those conversations. This event will feature three pairings from the project:

  • Kathy Fagan and Lauren Pintor

  • Rosebud-Ben Oni & Zakee Sabree

  • Ruth Awad and Kerry Ard

The poets and scientists will present a discussion of important environmental and ethical issues, and the poets will read their poems.

Magma Poetry 79 on "dwelling" is a special issue funded by the Arts Council of England and the Ohio State University Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Themes.

The idea of the journal issue is to explore how we live with nature and each other. we live in times when terrible and irrevocable violence is being done to our environment. We are also seeing widespread movements demanding social justice. Given the background of the global pandemic and lockdown, what ways might we find through poetry to approach a more ethical way of being, living dwelling?

The event will take place on Zoom. The link will be sent out by email 48 hours before, so please look out for that.

Please note that this event will feature BSL and ASL interpreters for accessibility.
